General:
John L. Saturley, 95, a longtime resident of both Pembroke and Chichester, died Monday, May 13, 2013, at the CRVNA Hospice House.

Born in North Pembroke on July 21, 1917, John was the son of the late Howard and Ella (Hutchinson) Saturley. One of seven siblings, John was predeceased by 2 brothers and 3 sisters, Howard, Lester, Margaret, Florence, and Lois.

He graduated from Pembroke Academy in 1935 and the Concord College of Business in 1937.

Mr. Saturley spent 45 years with Concord Lumber, moving his way up the ladder, until his retirement as general manager. During that time he served as president of the NH Retail Lumbermen's Association.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Pembroke and served at various times as teacher, Deacon, and Trustee. In addition he was Moderator for the State UCC.

He and his wife Doris loved to travel, crossed the country several times, and had reached their goal of visiting all 50 state capitals. John enjoyed gardening, was a baseball and basketball fan, and was very involved in civic affairs.

He was a member of the Pembroke School Board for 15 years, including some as chairman, and then was elected to the position of School District Moderator, serving for 9 years. He was also President of the NH School Boards Association for 2 years. He spent several years as Trustee to Pembroke Academy and had been appointed a trustee to the University of NH by Gov. Walter Peterson, spending 4 years as chairman of the school's Agricultural Committee.

He had been a member of the Pembroke Budget Committee and was a 55-year member of the Odd Fellows Noble Grande. A member of the Concord Rotary Club, Mr. Saturley had 20 years of perfect attendance and was awarded the Paul Harris Fellowship Recognition.

Joining at age 14, Mr. Saturley was an 82-year member of the Pembroke Grange #111. He served as National Grange Priest Archon, State Master for NH Grange, and Grange Master for the Pembroke Grange and Suncook Valley Pomona. In addition, John was involved with the 4-H Foundation and the International Farm Youth Exchange.

In 1986, he was honored as Citizen of the Year in the Town of Pembroke.

Mr. Saturley was the widower of Florence (Allen) Saturley, who died in 1959, and Doris (Fowler) (McCully) Saturley, who died in 2011. He was also predeceased by a son, Neil McCully and a daughter-in-law, Judy Saturley.

Of Hampton Falls at the time of his step father's estate probate, his mother being of Epsom.

In the name of God, Amen. I Joseph Saturlay of Epsom in the County of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire, do make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner following. -

First - I resign my soul into the hands of Almighty God, hoping and believing a remission of sins by the merits of Jesus Christ. And my body I commit to the earth to be buried at the discretion of my Executor herein after named - and my worldly estate I give and devise as follows -

First - I give and devise to my beloved wife, Hitty Saturlay all my house hold furniture of every description to be at her disposal - Also all my provisions on hand - Also all my stock of cattle that I now have, to be kept and used on the farm as usual, for and during her natural life, for her use and benefit. And also all my land and buildings excepting the back ell house that my son John L. Saturlay lives in, situated in said Epsom aforesaid, for and during the term of her natural life, and then said cattle, land and buildings to descend to my only beloved son John L. Saturley, his heirs and assigns forever. And my will is that the above farm should be carried on as we have usually done in years past.

Second - I give and bequeath to my beloved grandson Joseph Thomas Saturley, one yoke of oxen when he arrives to twenty one years of age, paid by Executor.

Third - I give and devise to my beloved son John L. Saturley all the rest and residue of my personal and real estate, and to his heirs and assigns forever, after all my just debts and legacies are paid.

And I do hereby constitute and appoint my said son John L. Saturley sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament.

Born in Concord, she was the daughter of Howard C. and Geraldine (Fowler) Saturley.

Judith enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her parents, Howard and Geraldine Saturley of Concord; her son Howard Watson and his wife Rebecca of Epsom; four brothers James Saturley of Manchester, William Saturley of Concord, Thomas Saturley of Cape Elizabeth, Maine and Joseph Saturley of Florida; and four grandchildren, Mikenzie Watson, Mikayla Watson, Cody Watson and Roberta Morrill.

She was predeceased by her son Adam Watson.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 23 at 2 p.m. at the McDonald residence at 201 Oak Hill Road, East Concord.
