KENNEBUNKPORT -- Carl G. Bartlett Sr., 90, of Kennebunkport, formerly of Concord, N.H., died on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2007, at Seal Rock Healthcare in Saco.
Mr. Bartlett was born on Nov. 9, 1917, in Concord, N.H., the son of Frank George and Bertha (Foss) Bartlett. He attended Concord, N.H. schools graduating from Concord (N.H.) High School in 1935 and Keene (N.H.) State College in 1939. He received a Masters of Education degree from the University of New Hampshire, in Durham, N.H.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942 and served as a Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. He received World War 11 Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Following the War he returned to Concord to continue his teaching career as teacher and principal at Rundlett Junior High. While in Concord, N.H. he served as President of the N.H. Philharmonic Orchestra, and a member of Nevers Band, the Concord Zoning Board, the Wesley United Methodist Church, and Golden Slippers Trombone Quartet.
Carl retired from teaching in 1976 and moved to Kennebunkport. He became the co-owner of Port Hardware from 1981-1995. He became an active member of the Kennebunkport community and served on the Kennebunkport Board of Selectmen for three terms also serving as Chairman. He was also a member of the Budget Board, a Graves Library Trustee, a founding member of the Christmas Prelude Committee, and a member of the Church on the Cape in Cape Porpoise. Carl's hobbies included woodworking, playing the trombone, bicycling, and his family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, George A. Bartlett and sister, Rachel B. Reid. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lillian (Marshall) Bartlett; his children, Jane E.B. Welch and her husband E. James of Chichester, N.H., Mary Bartlett Remington of Fryeburg, Harry P. Bartlett and his wife Debby of Billerica, Mass., Carl G. Bartlett Jr. and his friend Leslie Shriner Lamont of Kennebunk, Alan M. (Concord Monitor) Carroll F. Bartlett, 83 of Concord, passed away Monay, May 19, 2008, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon with his family by his side.
Born in Epsom on July 12, 1924, he was the son of Elbridge and Mabelle (Towle ) Bartlett.
He leaves his wife, Kelly Bartlett of Epsom; his sons, Leslie Bartlett and his wife Laurie, of Gloucester, Mass., and Russell Bartlett and his wife, Marina, of Nashua; four grandchildren, Seth Bartlett, Kyra Frank, Matthew Bartlett Bartlett and Suzanne Bartlett; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
During his life he was a parts manager for several auto dealers in Concord and Plymouth.
He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and served overseas during the war. He was a devoted member and reader at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church the past ten years.
He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, MacBeth, Elbridge Jr., and Eleanor.
Burial will be at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
