WILL of Samuel Goss Jr. March 9, 1829

In the name of God, Amen. I Samuel Goss, Jr of Epsom, County of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being of sound and perfect memory, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following, that is to say:
First, I give and devise to my daughter Sally T. Goss one four year old heifer and six sheep to he hers when married if she should marry before she is twenty one years of age, if not, she is to receive them at the age of twenty one.
Also I give and devise to my son Joseph T. Goss the blacksmith's shop situated on said farm where I now live and reside together with the tools and one acre of land out of the corner of the field where the shop now stands, commencing at the south west corner of said land upon the east side of the road leading by my house, then running northwardly ten rods on said road, thence eastwardly keeping the width of ten rods, so far as to contain one acre, likewise one yoke of two year old steers and one gun to be his at the age of twenty one.
Also I will and ordain that the executrix of this my last will and testament for and towards the performance of this my said testament shall, with all convenient speed after my decease, bargain, sell and alien in fee simple that lot of land called the Bickford land which I bought of Joseph Towle situated in said Epsom, which reference may be had to said deed bearing date December fourth A.D. 1827, for the doing, executing and perfect finishing whereof I do by these presents give to my said executrix full powers and authority to grant, alien, bargain, sell, convey and assure the said land called the Bickford land, to any person or persons their heirs forever in fee simple by all and every such lawful ways and measure in the law as to my said executrix or her council shall seem necessary. Also I give and devise to my beloved wife Susan G. Goss all the rest and residue of my estate whether real or personal whatsoever and wheresoever it may be found, after payment of all my just debts and legacies to have and to hold the same so long as she shall remain my widow and when she the said Susan G. Goss, my wife shall cease to be my widow, it is my will that the property should then go to my son Joseph T. Goss to be his and his heirs forever, excepting the household furniture which is to be divided between my two children, Sally T. Goss and Joseph T. Goss, as my said wife shall think most proper.
And lastly, I hereby appoint by beloved wife Susan G. Goss as my sole executrix of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills by me made.

NATHAN GOSS came to this country, from England, with two brothers,
at a very early day and served in the Revoltionary War. His son Nathan
married Dolly Grant, of Isam, NH and reared a family of twelve
children, seven sons and five daughters. His son Samuel married
Christina I. Perry of Nashua NH, has one son, George S., and resides in
this town.

Though the ancestry is wrong, it identifies this Samuel as a son of Nathan and Dolly (Grant) Goss of (Isam) Epsom, NH.

I Samuel Goss of Epsom in the County of Rockingham and State of New Hampshire testify and declare that in May in 1775 I did enlist for six months in the company commanded by Captain Caleb Hodges in the regiment commanded by Colonel David Gilman in the New Hampshire line in the Army of the United States in the Revolutionary War against the common enemy. I served said time of six months faithfully and was discharged. Then in August 1776 I enlisted again into the company commanded by Captain Mark Wiggin for one year in the Regiment commanded by Colonel Long in New Hampshire line in said Revolutionary War against the common enemy. Joined the Army at Shapley's Island at Portsmouth, stayed there until January, marched from thence to Ticonderoga where we were stationed and had to retreat to Fort Miller and from thence to Saratoga from thence to Stillwater where we were until the twelfth day of August 1777 at which time I was honorably discharged by Colonel Long. I served in said revolutionary war against the common enemy more than eighteen months, was honorably discharged, am sixty five years of age, I am in reduced circumstances in life and need assistance from my Country for support. My discharge lost.
