A biography of Francis E. Worthignton, who married daughter Emily E. Rand, says Samuel Rand, a native of Vermont, died in old age, which would not support the above transcription, having died at age 38. Possibly an unknown son?

This is a questionable member of this family, though John Mark Moses mentions that there were in Epsom, NH a Samuel, Richard and William Rand about 1790. There was a Samuel Rand, son of Samuel, who married Sarah Dowst, who was for a time "of Epsom, NH" having purchased land from the Mardens (relative of his wife Abigail).

Samuel moved to Epsom, NH after purchasing land from Timothy Marden (brother to Joseph, his wife's father) along with his brother in-law William Rand (who married Samuel's sister, Sarah). There are no further Rye records after the birth of his first daughter. The 1790 and 1800 census for Epsom, NH would tend to verify the births of Samuel and Eleanor, plus two other children (male) under the age of 10 (1800). A deed selling the land purchased from Timothy Marden to Joseph Lawrence in 1804 is signed by Samuel, which indicates he was living at that date, and is wittnessed by Samuel Rand Jr. and Eleanor Rand, giving further evidence that these were his children. It would appear as though they moved shortly after the sale of the land as there is no further record of him or his son's in Epsom, NH after that date. Daughter Eleanor married Enoch Brown and stayed in Epsom, NH. There is no record of the first daughter Sarah.
