History of the First Congregational Church of Sharon which was written by a previous church historian, Mr. Sydney S. Morgan, several years ago.

"On September 20, 1825, the church voted to call Rev. Jonathan Curtis, who had been preaching to them on a weekly basis. One week later the society (it was called The Christian Society at that time) concurred, and after some negotiation regarding vacation, Reverend Curtis agreed to serve at the annual rate of three hundred dollars. Rev. Jonathan Curtis was installed as pastor on October 12, 1825, by an Ecclesiastical Council of neighboring churches called for that purpose. Reverend Curtis served the church for nine years. In July, 1834, Reverend Curtis asked to be dismissed having received a call from a church in Pittsfield, New Hampshire. Money again was part of the problem. His dismissal became effective on July 21, 1834."
