General Notes: Husband - William Wallace

William² WALLIS, son of George¹ and Eleanor (---) Wallis was born ca. 1648 and died at New Castle sometime after 11 February 1722/23 when he deeded his land to son Samuel. [NHPD 13:129-30]. William's birth year is derived from a deposition in 1676 where he states his age as 28. We can verify that it is this William since his wife Jane also testified. [N.H. Provincial Court Case #19291]. William married at Hampton 15 December 1673, Jane DRAKE, daughter of Nathaniel¹ and Jane (---) (Berry) Drake. [Hampton VRs, I:575, literally from the New Hampshire Court Records and the date given as 15: 10 mo. 1673.] Jane was born say 1653 and was likely dead before the 1723 deed in which she is not mentioned.
William is listed first [i.e. the eldest] in the distribution deed for the estate of his father, George, on 13 March 1685/86. [NHPD 4:43a]. He later on 7 April 1686, in a separate deed with his brother George, confirms which lands they were to receive. [NHPD 6:78]. This deed wasn't recorded until 11 March 1694/95, possibly indicating the death of their mother Eleanor whose dower they were asked to protect in their father's distribution deed. William deposed on 12 February 1706/07, as being full age, and that he was at the death bed of Rachel Marden, widow of John Marden deceased. He gave her full control of his estate. She gave said estate to her children William Marden, John Marden and Elizabeth Rand. [NHPD 13:94, recorded on 2 January 1722]. William and Rachel were related. She was born Rachel Berry, the daughter of William¹ and Jane (---) (Berry) Drake, and therefore the uterine half-sister of William's wife Jane. Additionally, William's sister Eleanor had married Rachel (Berry) Marden's brother James Berry.
"William Wallis of the town of New Castle in the province of New Hampshire in New England" for natural love and affection I bear to my loving son Samuel Wallis of the same place, yeoman, all my house and lands being in New Castle, Littell Harbour, and Sandy Beach, commonly called Wallis, his farm. The deed goes on provide that Samuel support William for the rest of his life and supply a decent burial at his death. William also includes that Samuel was to pay his two sisters twenty shillings each, viz. Jane the now wife of Stephen Lang and Sarah, the now wife of Joshua Foss. The deed was witnessed by Edward Randall and John Odiorn. It was recorded on 4 March 1722/23. No mention of son William is made. It is inferred that William gave his son William land via deeds that no longer survive or in money.

Jane died bef Feb 1723; she was 70.¹ On 15 Dec 1673 when Jane was 20, she married William WALLIS, son of George WALLIS & Eleanor, in Little Harbor, New Hampshire.² Born abt 1648 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.³ William died in New Castle, New Hampshire, aft Feb 1723; he was 75.¹
