General Notes: Husband - Samuel Wallace

Samuel3 Wallis was born ca. 1683, probably at Portsmouth, N.H., the son of William2 (George1) and Jane (Drake) Wallis. He died at Rye between 1 June and 26 August 1741, the dates on which his will was written and proved. [N.H. State Papers 33:55]. Samuel married about 1709, Hannah SEAVEY, daughter of William2 (William1) and Hannah (Jackson) Seavey. She was born say 1685 and died say 1739 or sometime earlier, based on the fact that Samuel must remarry before his own death in 1741. She is called daughter Hannah Wallis in the will of her father on 21 March 1728/29 [N.H. State Papers 32:356-57] and deceased daughter Hannah Wallis in the will of her mother on 10 September 1741 [N.H. State Papers 33:71-72]. Samuel married second, Deborah JORDAN, the daughter of Jeremiah2 (Robert1) and Deborah (Bickford) Jordan and widow of James Randall of Newcastle. After Samuel Wallis's death Deborah married for a third time to Henry Trefethen.
William2 deeds for life support to his son Samuel3 on 11 February 1722/23, giving him all his lands and instructing him to pay his sisters, Jane, the now wife of Stephen Lang, and Sarah, the now wife of Joshua Foss each twenty shillings. [N.H. Provincial Deeds 13:129-30]. On 1 June 1741, Samuel Wallis of Rye, husbandman, "in consideration of love, good will and affection I have and do bear towards my loving son Samuel Wallis of ye same parish, singleman" grants him his dwelling house and all his animals. [New Hampshire Provincial Deeds, hereinafter NHPD 25:258]. On the same day Samuel grants three tracts of land in Epsom to "his loving son George Wallis of Rye, husbandman," on one of which George was already living. [NHPD 25:292].
In his will, Samuel leaves his son William 50 acres in Epsom and 20 shillings. He then gives bequests to his sons George, Ebenezer, daughters Hannah and Mary and makes son Samuel his executor. On 10 February 1748, Deborah Trefethen, the widow of Samuel sued Samuel4, the executor of the estate [N.H. Provincial Court Case #25759]. In a deposition, it says that Samuel3 had died in August 1741 leaving four sons: William, the eldest, George, Samuel and Ebenezer, and Hannah and Mary his daughters. This is one of two suits over Deborah's right of dower, the other being N.H. Provincial Court Case #22774.
