John Sanders, a soldier of the War of 1812, married Betsey Buzzell, niece of Elder
Benjamin Randall, and bought the farm now occupied by his son Israel L. in 1821. His son John B. was a captain in the Sixth New Hampshire in the Civil War.

Epsom, NH records gives his mother as Josephine age 33. Locke Genealogy gives his mother as Huldah H. Locke, though the Epsom, NH Records for the death of his brother Charles lists her as Huldah J. Locke - perhaps the J for "Josephine" which would make Clarence's mother also as Huldah Locke. This would put her age in dispute. A death record for Clarence has not been seen to verify his mother either way.

Death date given from copy of 1812 Pension records of Joanna, copied from family bible and certified is Aug. 24, 1842. The family record and Dolbeer disagree, and I have taken the Dolbeer records to be correct as I have yet to find any other fault with them.
The agricultural census records for Epsom, NH have Daniel, Aaron and William appearing over the years in this order, which further establishes the order of birth of the first three sons.

General Notes: Wife - Joanna Pettingill
aThis marriage is given by John Mark Moses and NHVR. JMM gives her father as Elijah. According to the Pettingill Genealogy, Joanna is daughter of Jethro (brother to Elijah) and that she married a Marstin and had a daughter living in Epsom, NH as late as 1897. There is a female Marstin in Epsom, NH census in the household 1870, age 16, at school. (the name is hard to read, but would appear to be Lucy - and the age would work out). In fact, Joanna's daughter Mary Jane married a Marston and had the daughter Lucy.
Elijah Pettingill was married in 1796, and if Joanna's date of birth is correct, it preceeds this marriage and would more likely make her father Jethro.

Mrs. Joanna Buzzell died the 10th, inst., aged 92. She had been a widow over 40 years.
