General:
Moses Lovering, Sr., the twin brother of Miriam, was born 1 Jul 1735 in Exeter, New Hampshire. He was the son of Daniel Lovering & Mary Smith, the grandson of John Lovering, Jr. & Hannah Kilham of Ipswich, Mass. & the greatgrandson of John Lovering, Sr. & Esther, his wife of Dover (Quamphegan [now Rollinsford]), New Hampshire. His greatgrandfather emigrated from Wales in 1654. Moses, Sr. owned land at Great Hill, near the road to Kingston, near his brother Ebenezer, his father Daniel, & his uncles, John Prescott & Ebenezer.
Moses, Sr. married Penelope Taylor, the daughter of Joseph Taylor & Penelope Favor, on 10 Mar 1760 in Kingston, New Hampshire. Apparently Penelope's mother was already dead. When Joseph died in 1761, his two youngest daughters, aged 14 & 16 chose Moses, Sr. to be their guardian in Apr 1761. Moses, Sr. died about 1810 in Loudon, NH. The date & place of his wife's death is not known yet.
Moses, Sr. & Penelope had 13 children, 11 born in Exeter, the last two in Loudon. Penelope was born 31 Aug 1760, died unknown. Willoby (Willoughby) was born 27 Jan 1762 & christened 31 Jan 1762. He died 10 Oct 1845 in Stewartstown, NH & is buried with his wife in the South Hill Cemetery there near Lovering Mountain. He married Elizabeth Mason 23 Feb 1788 in Chichester, NH. She was born 22 Jul 1762 & died in Stewartstown, NH on 1 Mar 1848. They had at least 5-6 children. Margaret married a Young in 1816, Jeremiah was born 11 Feb 1795 in Loudon & died 7 Nov 1844 in Stewartstown. He married a Betsy Kent in 1817. Susan was born 12 Nov 1803 & married Richard Tibbetts, Jr. in 1826 & died 22 Jan 1890; Hazen was born 18 Feb 1807 & married Nancy Moses of Concord, 9 Apr 1837 in Stewartstown. His brother , Jeremiah, the justice of the peace, performed the ceremony. Hazen died 29 May 1861. Nancy was born 2 Feb 1813 in Concord & died 17 SEp 1877 in Stewartstown. They had 4 children. An!
geline was born 23 Mar 1840 & died 27 May 1918. The South Hill Cemetery was on land she owned. Ira A was born 23 Dec 1843 & died 18 Mar 1881. Loren Robert was born 11 Apr 1849 & died in 1917. Marietta was born 5 May 1857 & died 30 Jul 1860.
Osgood was born 10 Apr 1763 & died 15 Apr 1840 in Stewartstown, NH. He married Mary Bachelder 26 Jul 1784 in Deerfield, NH. She was born in 1766 & died in Stewartstown, NH on 10 Jul 1843. They had several children, one of whom was Hubbard. Nancy was born about 1764. Taylor was born 1765 or 1772, depending on which source you consider more reliable. Taylor married Ruth Rogers 23 Dec 1792 in Loudon, NH. They had about 5 children: Taylor, Rodney, Horace, Ruth & Lydia. Taylor moved to Springfield, then Dorchester, NH & finally to Stanstead, Province of Quebec.
Moses, Jr. was born about 1767 & married twice: Polly _____, who died in 1809 & Elizebeth [Betsy] (Wadleigh) Kent. Moses, Jr. died 9 Oct 1835 & is buried in the Loudon Village Cemetery near his first wife. Betsy moved to Stewartstown & died there 27 Apr 1842 & buried in the South Hill Cemetery.
Jesse was born about 1773 & died 1 Jul 1851 in Loudon & is buried in the Lovering Cemetery there. He married Polly Taylor 22 Aug 1796 in Kingston. They had at least two children. Mary was born about 1774 & died 1815.
Zebulon was born 15 Jul 1777 & died 21 Dec 1830. He married Abigail Buswell. They had about 9 children. John T was born about 1780 & died 17 May 1844. He married Elixabeth Winslow. Daniel was born about 1781. He moved to Springfield with William & his uncle Ebenezer.
William was born 26 Oct 1786 & died 16 Mar 1865 in Springfield, NH. Sarah, the youngest, was born about 1788 & married Thomas Hackett.
At the urging of his halfsister Abigail, Moses, Sr. began purchasing tracts of land in Feb 1782, again in 1783 & in other years. She convinced him that the area was good for setting up a mill. Her husband Jethro Batchelder, Jr. & her brother-in-law Abraham had already erected several mills. In 1787, Moses, Sr. left the Exeter/ Great Hill area to live in Loudon, New Hampshire. Over a period of time the homestead grew to about 500 acres. It stretched from the Canterbury townline near Clough Pond to the Soucook River. On Clough Pond Road, there is on the former homestead. the Lovering Family Cemetery. It has two black wroughtiron gates with the name LOVERING in gold lettering. Many of Moses, Sr.'s children & descendants are buried there.
