General:
A farmer and selectman in Epsom, NH July 21, 1744. A cemetery stone in the McClary Cemetery bears simply, 1787 F.L., and is most likely this Francis Locke, as his will was proved Feb. 21, 1787 according to John Mark Moses.

WILL of Francis Locke 1781

In the name of God, Amen. This twenty first day of March Anno Domini 1781, I Francis Locke in the town of Epsom and in the State of New Hampshire, yeoman, being at this time through the goodness of God, of sound disposing mind and memory, do make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament, hereby revoking all and every Will or Wills, Testament or Testaments by __ any time heretofore made, and first of all I command my sound into the Hands of Almighty God, and my body to a Christian Burial, and as to such worldly estate, as it has pleased God to bestow upon me, I do give, devise and dispose of the same in manner and form following, and first my will is and I do hereby order that all my honest and just debts and funeral charges shall be paid in convenient time after my decease by my Executor and Executors, herein after named.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Elizabeth my clock and all my housing stuff, to her own proper use, to dispose of as she pleases and I also give my wife Elizabeth the east end of my house where we now live, and also part of the cellar as long as she remains my widow; also my will is that my son Abraham Locke finds her one half of her maintenance, and her son John Batchelder the other half as long as she remains my Widow; and also if she should marry that she shall have two cows and two sheep.

Item, I give and bequeath unto my well beloved son Abraham Locke to his heirs and assigns forever, all my estate, real and personal, with half of a grist mill, and privilege thereon. I also give unto my son Abraham Locke all my stock of creation which I have not otherwise disposed of, with all my husbandry tools. I also give unto my daughter Sarah Seavey one cow and one sheep in one year after my decease to be paid by my executor. I also give unto my daughter Elizabeth Cass one cow and one sheep to be paid in two years after my decease by my Executor. I do give unto my daughter Hannah Bickford one cow and one sheep to be paid in three years after my decease by my Executor.

Lastly, I do constitute and appoint my son Abraham Locke Executor of this my Will, and for confirmation of all forgoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day of the date within written, signed, sealed and declared by the said Francis Locke to be his last Will and Testament. I Francis Locke of Epsom in the County of Rockingham and State of New Hampshire, testify and declare that in the month of April 1775, I enlisted as a private soldier for the term of eight months in the Revolutionary War against Great Britain in a company commanded by Captain Henry Dearborn in Colonel John Starks Regiment in the New Hampshire line; that I served the eight months and then without returning home again, enlisted for the term of twelve months in the same company and Regiment '96 that I before served in the continental establishment '96 that after faithfully serving the full one year, the term I last enlisted for, I was regularly discharged and left the service, which discharge is now missing and cannot be found, and I further declare that being far advanced in years, I am not able to obtain support by manual labor and have no other way of acquiring a living and by reason of my reduced circumstances stand in need of assistance from my country for support.

State of New Hampshire, Rockingham, on this 29th day of June AD 1820, before Hall Burgin, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas in the County of Rockingham, appeared Francis Locke of Epsom, aged sixty five, resident in Epsom, who first being duly sworn according to law, doth, on his oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows viz:

My occupation is that of a farmer but not of sufficient ability to pursue it. My family residing with me is my wife Olive aged 56 and one daughter named Comfort aged 23 years. Their capacity to contribute to their support is my daughter Comfort is not able to support herself nor can they contribute anything towards my support.

WILL of Francis Locke 1868

Be it remembered that I Francis Locke of Epsom in the County of Merrimack and State of New Hampshire being of a sound mind and memory, considering the uncertainty of this mortal life and being desirous to settle my worldly estate while I have strength and capacity to do so, do make this my last will and testament in manner following, that is to say;

First \endash I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Rhoda Locke all the household furniture that she formerly owned and all that I have purchased since our marriage, all the provisions I may have on hand at the time of my decease and one good cow.

Also, I give and devise to my said beloved wife for and during the term of her natural life, the homestead farm upon which I know live containing about eighteen acres to have and to hold the same to her and her assigns with all the appurtenances thereto belonging for and during the term aforesaid.

Second I give and bequeath to my son Daniel P. Locke and to my daughter Sarah E. Veasey the sum of one dollar each.

Third I give and bequeath to my three grandchildren, Frank T. Locke, Daniel L. Locke and Mary J. Veasey the sum of twenty five dollars each, all the aforesaid sum of money I order to be paid in one year after my decease.

Fourth, I give, bequeath and devise to my son Arthur C. Locke his heirs and assigns forever, all the rest, residue and remainder of my estate real and personal wherever found and however situated and I do hereby appoint my said son Arthur C. Locke sole executor of this my last will and testament.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty sixth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty eight.
