DEERFIELD – Mrs. Mildred E. (Palmer) Ames, 88, died Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at the Epsom Healthcare Center after a period of failing health.

Born in Auburn on Nov. 3, 1923, Mildred was the daughter of George and Harriett (Keniston) Palmer. She spent her early life in Epsom and lived over 50 years as a Deerfield resident. Later in life, she also spent winters in Silver Springs, Fla.

Mrs. Ames retired from General Electric in Hooksett after also working for several companies in Epsom, Pittsfield and Manchester.

One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition she loved fishing and was an avid camper. She also enjoyed crocheting and knitting and was known for the "premie" caps she made for newborns at Concord Hospital.

Mildred was the widow of Ralph Ames Sr., who died in 1985; and was also predeceased by a grandson, Dana Ames Jr., in 2007.

She leaves four children, Ralph Ames Jr. of Alton, Kenneth Ames of Franklin, Mass., Patricia McIntyre of Wentworth, and Dana Ames of Pembroke; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Of several siblings, she is survived by a brother, Robert Palmer of Epsom; and a sister, Mabel Laframboise of Latrobe, Pa. She also leaves nieces and nephews.
