SPRINGVALE, Maine - Marjorie Louise Eaton, 79, of Springvale, Maine, formerly of Weare, and Conroe, Texas, died Friday May 28, 2010, at Goodall Hospital in Sanford, Maine after a period of declining health.
She was born July 6, 1930, in Manchester and was the daughter of the late Henry and Genevieve (Sherry) Rice. She was raised in Weare and was a graduate of Weare High School. Mrs. Eaton attended New England College in Henniker, and resided in Weare most of her life, where her husband, David, was the U.S. postmaster for many years. After her husband's retirement, they relocated to Conroe, Texas, and she resided most recently in Springvale, Maine.
Marjorie was a homemaker, and also had worked at New Hampshire Fire Insurance and Britt's Department store. She served as the school clerk in Weare, supervisor of the checklist in Weare for 32 years and school board member for six years including two as chairman. She was past president of the Weare Fire Auxiliary, a member of the Weare PTA, a newspaper correspondent for the Goffstown News, a charter member of the Weare Historical Society, an original red network operator in Weare, assistant director of civil defense for Weare, secretary of Little League Baseball, a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and she was the longest serving member (66 years) of the Philbrick Clement Post 65 American Legion Auxiliary of Weare.
Mrs. Eaton was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, David Dudley Eaton, and a son, David Van Eaton.
Surviving children include Barry and Susan Eaton of Conroe, Texas, and Jeffrey and Janet Eaton, of Springvale, Maine. Five grandchildren, Carla Eaton of Brighton, Mass., Joshua Eaton of Spring, Texas, Jennifer (Eaton) Thomson and Eric Thomson of Montgomery, Texas, Colin and Amanda Eaton of Hollis, Maine, and Cody Eaton of Springvale, Maine. She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Sadie Suzette Thomson of Montgomery, Texas; a brother, Robert Rice of Pueblo, Colo.; a sister, Virginia Bigwood of Weare; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Burial at Pine Grove Cemetery of Weare.
