Leslie C. Clark (1924-2011)
Mr. Leslie C. Clark, 87, of Pleasant Street, died Thursday, September 29, 2011, at the Concord Hospital.
Born in South Pittsfield on April 18, 1924, Leslie was the son of Carroll and Viola (Stockbridge) Clark. He graduated from Pembroke Academy and spent his lifetime in the Chichester, Pittsfield, Northwood area. He and his wife made a second home in High Point, Fla., and enjoyed traveling across the country.
Just before his nineteenth birthday, Mr. Clark joined the U.S. Navy, proudly serving during World War II as a Gunner's Mate on PT 494 in the Philippines.
After the war, he returned to the Portsmouth Navy Yard, where he worked for 31 years as a ship fitter, inspector and planner prior to his retirement. At the same time he worked odd jobs as a carpenter. Indulging his love of wood working, Mr. Clark crafted working, scale models of spinning wheels in his spare time.
He was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion and PT Boats, Inc. He was also a member of the Pittsfield Historical Society and former member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
Mr. Clark is survived by his wife of 63 years, Barbara (McGowen) Clark of Chichester; seven children, Patricia Freeman and her husband, John, Terry Clark and his wife, Pamela, and Sandra Courtemanche and her husband, Russell, all of Pittsfield, David Clark and his wife, Lisa, of Hendersonville, N.C., Connor Clark and Kathleen Bovay of Zephyrhills, Fla., William Clark and his wife, Maryanne, of Deerfield and Robbie Clark and Nicole Smith of Gonic; 14 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Mr. Clark also left 3 siblings, Arlene Fleury of Suncook, William Clark and his wife, Ella, of Pittsfield and Rosalie Clough and her husband, Ed, of St. Cloud, Fla.; and a sister-in-law Cathy Clark, wife of Mr. Clark's predeceased brother, Dennis.

CHICHESTER \endash Mrs. Barbara Clark, 79, of Pleasant Street, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at the Concord Hospital.
Born in Haverhill, Mass., on Feb. 18, 1933, Barbara was the daughter of the late Royce and Doris (Jones) McGowen. She attended Coe-Brown Academy and had spent her lifetime in Chichester, Pittsfield and Northwood. Barbara and her husband also made a second home for themselves in High Point, Fla.
Before her retirement she had worked for A&P and IGA in Pittsfield, and Shaw's in Concord as a cashier.
Barbara enjoyed all kinds of crafts and took an interest in community affairs as well. She was a member of the Pittsfield Historical Society and a former member of the Pittsfield Budget Committee. She also belonged to TOPS NH #38 in Pittsfield.
Her greatest joy though was her family. Barbara lost her beloved husband of 63 years, Leslie Clark, in September 2011.
She is survived by seven children: Patricia Freeman and her husband John, Terry Clark and Pamela, and Sandra Courtemanche and Russell, all of Pittsfield, David Clark and Lisa of Hendersonville, N.C., Connor Clark and Kathleen Bovay of Kerrville, Texas, William Clark and Maryanne of Deerfield, and Robbie Clark and Nicole Smith of Gonic; 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; three brothers, Bruce McGowen of Tacoma, WA, Gary McGowen of Nottingham, and Bill McGowen of Northwood; a sister, Sue Benoit of Nottingham; and nieces and nephews.
