LEFT: This is a civilian hat that did see some military service. These hats can be trimmed in several ways. An enlisted military hat would have been trimmed in white or yellow wool on the edges. An officers hat could have been trimmed with either Silver or Gold metallic lace on the edges. Civilian hat were most of the time trimmed in black as is the one we have. (not shown)

RIGHT: This is the typical military hat for infantry man. This hat is not as pointed has the Tricorn hat. This style of hat is seen in painting of British military troops as early as the 1750's, and was used during the Revolutionary War by both sides.Trimmed in black
