Kearsarge", and letters of recommendation from his superior officers. Includes notes with engineer's drawings of machine parts related to ships. Also includes letters from Theodosia Stockbridge of Hanover, N.H. and pamphlets on religion
History Rand was born in Norwich, Vt. in 1844. He was a member of Dartmouth College Class on 1863 and received his AB in 1879. He became an assistant engineer in the United States Navy, continued his career in the Navy, and retired with the rank of rear admiral in 1911
Enlisted Aug. 15, 1861; dis. disab. Apri 13, 1863; vol. officer U.S.N.; appt. act. 3rd asst. eng. Know all men by these presents that I Rebecca B. Rand of Hanover in the County of Grafton and State of New Hampshire being of uncertain health but of sound disposing mind and memory do hereby make and publish this my last will and testament.
First I hereby constitute and appoint Orlando Tabor of Hanover in the County of Grafton executor of this my last will and testament.
Second I desire my executor to pay my just debts and funeral expenses.
Third I give and bequesth to Lucy H. Gage and Mary F. Tabor of Hanover in the County of Grafton and State of New Hampshire - or the heirs of their bodies my entire estate personal consisting of one Piano and all my household furniture and Estate of whatever nature.
