Epsom Historical Events Calendar 28 January 2008, Monday 1821 Rev. Corser Preaches Rev. Corser preached Text A.M. John 3.14 P.M. Matthew 6.33, probably in the schoolhouse as Mr. Broadhead was in the Meetinghouse this day. Rev. Corser preached in Loudon 1816-1837 and again 1859/1860. It is not known how many times he came to Epsom, but on at least one other time he was either in the Meeting House or after 1845 in the Congregational Society's Church. In any event, from one of his Epsom visit's, NOT on this day comes the following story: The following reminiscences, illustrating some points in his character, may not be without interest: A somewhat ludicrous incident is related as occurring on one occasion in connection with a pulpit exercise. He was preaching at Epsom, N. H., and announced for his text the words: "Up, get ye out of this place, for the Lord will destroy this city!" casting his eyes at the same time up to the gallery, where sat a colored woman, who, construing the warning literally, instantly started and rushed out of the house, as if the alarm of Fire! had been sounded. (We have this on the authority of Mrs. N. S. Webster, whose father, Mr. Lord, player on the base viol, was at church on that occasion.)
